Polyvagal Theory (PVT), developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, revolutionizes our understanding of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) by explaining how our physiological state shapes emotional regulation, social engagement, and responses to trauma. Central to PVT is the role of the vagus nerve, which influences our ability to feel safe, connect with others, and recover from stress and trauma.

PVT offers a transformative lens for trauma treatment, emphasizing that healing is not solely a cognitive process鈥攊t is physiological. By understanding the body鈥檚 response to danger and safety, clinicians can support clients in restoring nervous system flexibility, building resilience, and reclaiming connection and well-being.

Presenter Meruyet Akimbayeva is a multicultural, bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Polyvagal-informed therapist, and international speaker offering a holistic, neuroscience-based approach to mental health.

*Continuing Education Units聽are available for licensed professional counselors, licensed clinical professional counselors, licensed social workers, and licensed clinical social workers.
